The Y is closing the academic achievement gap with pilot programs that improve students’ educational readiness, engagement and outcomes, while helping them grow emotionally and physically, too.
Early Learning Readiness
Children and their caregivers attend the Early Learning Readiness Program together. Young learners get stimulating preschool-like experiences. Their caregivers receive support to replicate the experiences at home, ensuring that children start kindergarten ready to learn.
Summer Learning Loss Prevention
Third-grade reading skills predict high school graduation. That’s why the Y’s Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program helps elementary students reading below grade level. The program focuses on phonics, writing, and reading to boost literacy skills, with enrichment activities to support physical and social-emotional growth.
Not only do children and teens have a safe place to go in the afternoon with the Y, but our Afterschool program also helps them realize who they are and all they can achieve through academic intervention and health and enrichment activities.
Power Scholars AcademyTM
Power Scholars AcademyTM is a partnership between the Y and the national nonprofit BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life), a six-week summer program designed to not only tackle summer learning loss in math and reading, but to also foster physical and social-emotional growth.
